One of my client had Windows 10 and SQL 2017 installed. They often faced issues of system getting slower due to Windows 10 OS. Took a backup and installed Windows 7 Professional which is much more reliable and found that SQL 2017 cannot be installed on Windows 7. Is there a work around to restore database to earlier version of SQL or any other option to have Windows 7 Proessional with SQL 2017
Windows 10 is very reliable and fast I’m not sure how it made a difference unless it’s an older system. I use only windows 10 on my systems and I’ve had great success. Going backwards is not a good idea considering they will end win 7 support. In fact win7 end of life is next year.
I recently had a similar issue with Windows 10 Home Edition which can pre installed with a Dell Inspiron All in One Touch PC. These editions often come pre-installed with junk software and crap anti virus programs that you dont need. These only slow the pc down further.
I decided to wipe clean the pc and re-installed with a naked Windows 10 Pro. What a difference that made, it was reminiscent of the good old Windows 7 Ultimate fresh install.
I suggest you go down this route and stick to sql server 2017. I recently done this setup and its working amazingly fast.
I also disable Windows Updates from the Services, which is what annoys me the most about Windows 10.
The systems i sell come with windows 10 enterprise IOT and they run very lean and fast even on lower end hardware. All of mine come with celeron j1900 cpu and 4-8 gigs of ram. SambaPOS runs very well. Fast and snappy.
Yes but RDP is not a good method its expensive you need to buy license for every tablet etc. Its better to use the Mobile app or Windows tablets. If all you need is order taking then the Official Mobile app is the best method its almost instant on speed and runs on any android device.
In the past I’ve tried Windows Tablets and for me RDP worked alot smoother.
I use to get dropouts to the sql server which in return shuts down sambapos. So now I use Amazon Fire 8 Tablets, which need Google Play installed which then allows you to download RD Client.
Are you using it just for order taking? If so you should try the Mobile client. It is the most reliable method and works faster and more reliably than RDP as it does not require a concurrent connection to the server or Database.
