Firstly, thank you for having me on your forums. I love the “homey” feel here between all the users.
Im a technician coming from using the software Cash Register Express / Restaurant Pro Express. So the first things to strike me is that Samba is a slight pain to setup initially lol. However, the customization options available FAR outweighs the cons this software has.
Anyway, i was trying to find some info on different functions for different industries. Starting with typical retail:
Inventory maintenance ( department creation, item creation, setting sales prices, setting up recipes etc)
User account creation and settings permissions
using barcode scanners
using loyalty cards (scan-able)
database maintenance (backup, restore)
For restaurant, its a bit trickier:
recipe and ingredient setup
inventory management
time clock management (hours worked mostly)
cant think of anything else off hand.
i can post things directly from the manuals of the software i used to work with , then we can find the equivalent in Samba
Nothing you have asked is not already documented on the forum…
Have you tried searching? Its in the top right.
Inventory has several good tutorials although being a hospitality oriented software it can be more labour intensive setting up for retail and still uses recipe for 1:1 inventory although there is a quick recipe function in v5.
Barcode scanners, MSR and RFID are just HID/Keyboards as far as a computer is concerned and in turn obviously comparable with samba. Many topics on these devices.
V4 has a backup and restore module, V5 licence includes this and more - suggest looking at V5, many new features and improvements.
Time clock management has also been discussed many times, the two forum leaders have setup timetrex integration with it for clock in and out and more (v5)…
You wont get much discussion from your question as these are all thoroughly covered points.
As a new user id strongly suggest you search the forum and read as much as you can. Everything you listed above is already doable in samba, the difference is you need to customise it and set it up yourself above and beyond the basic setup
Ask questions and people will help you understand or customise a setup but have a go yourself
If you search time clock youll see a number of posts from @Jesse and QMcKay who created the whole setup themselves, integrated it with samba and shared the setup through tutorials so others could set it up and adapt it to their needs
Once you start youll find a load of things you can try and add to your setup and if you get stuck just ask. Ive been on here for around 2 years i think now and my setup has changed so much, and ive heavily adapted the default setup for more of a quick retail/bar environment as opposed to a restaurant. Theres just so much you can do but you need to learn how, ask questions and share your own ideas and setups. Thats how ive got as far as i have, youll find everyone here is willing to help and i wouldnt have got as far as i have without the help of everyone on here
So have search of the forum and shout out with any questions
