Nope. You can’t skip it. Inventory control does not work without Recipes, because that is how it determines Consumption.
You have a couple options to help you out though to reduce the amount of manual entry.

For v5 only, there is a feature to Create the Recipes for you. Your Product must have a matching Inventory Item …
