How to install 2 instances of Sambapos v5 (software) in 1 computer

Hi ,

How do we install 2 instances of Sambapos v5 (software) on a computer…

Do you mean 2 instances on the same computer? What do you need to do that for?

There was a topic ages ago about a way to open two windows of the samba presentation app but was a while back and couldn’t find it, think you added a suffix to the shortcut maybe…
Don’t think it allowed multiple connection strings though, think it was just a quick way of testing something at the time.

I installed 2 database on the computer. In order for the user not to change the database settings in the sambapos, instead when closing to check the sales and other report. Why not install 2 sambapos programs to be straight forward.

Not sure what your getting at?
What are you closing?
You want two samba pos presentation windows on the same machine in order to use POS on one and reports on the other in a live environment?
Just setup samba on laptop/office computer on the network and link to the SQL so you can manage your system and reports from back office rather than PC.
I dont think I ever look at reports on the till itself, much easier at a desk with keyboard and mouse and an a4 printer…

the POS is running SQL with 2 instances, 1 database is used by POS1, 2nd database is used by POS2 both are from different remote sites. For straight forward sales report if user want to check (not me) sales report on POS1 & POS2 there’s no need to change the setting’s on the database.

To enable two instances edit the sambasettings.txt file in your programdata folder and set the allowmultipleinstances option.

Remember you need to have purchased two $99 Sambapos licenses to do this.

I knew of this setting before but never tried it. But doesn’t it just allow 2 (or more) instances running, but they will all surely share the same database connection string in settings. I don’t think there is a way to have 2 instances using different databases, unless you use the Change Database Connection action and set to not save to local settings. However I’ve had issues with using that action in the past.

Thank you for the info. !!! Will try later
