I am sorry I guess you could almost call me a fanboy at this moment but I thought this was pretty cool. I love that microsoft is finally giving Apple real contendors.
I personally feel Microsofts presentations today blew away the humdrum September apple ones. Those phones look amazing. The ability to turn them into a desktop pc is nuts.
That Microsoft Book is simply amazing I certainly was not expecting to see that.
That hinge looks… well not sure… its either awesome or wrong. Its odd, cant put my finger on it weather I like it or not.
Although it as a whole does look very very impressive…
As I am usually an apple fanboy myself am so wound up that apple hasn’t taken the ipad into the crossover/hybrid market.
Spent last 12 years as apple fan for my personal use but software for my printing work - being windows only - has converted my desktop/pc use over to windows.
Apple for years had the more impressive hardware if noting else but nowadays they seem to be much less innovative and bold and others producing hardware as if not more impressive.
Phones do look cool too
but personally am extremely content with an iPhone 6s as not seen the need to ‘bridge’ that far until the time that a phone truly can compete with a popper desktop although that certainly looks to be that one step closer.
Did you see where the phone was plugged into a monitor and it turned the phone into a full blown windows 10 desktop PC and the phone continued to work independently as well?
Id say they stepped into that territory already.
BTW some interesting specs reading… the phone has removable battery and dual SDcard support.
The hinge is different on the book thats for sure. But did you catch where it has a FULL discrete Nvidia GPU and its a basically a 14" surface tablet as well. This is the ultimate 2n1 its got everything ive been wanting in one. Price is steep but I expected that.
EDIT: This is real apple competition folks. This is mind blowing just like apple was several years ago. This will only force apple to be better… Good times for consumers. Props to MS for finally waking up. Even their video presentation took queues from apples past but was done in a way fitting for something different.
Im digging the future.
Think about it now… its easy for apple developers and Android even to port their apps to microsoft they did that last year… Now it seems the premium products everyone has been wanting is here. Future looks good for us consumers.
I did see that, ill give you that, its more that ‘a’ step closer ![]()
Although without reading the spec I doubt a phone used like this would be sufficient for those of us you might call ‘incentive’ users although I might be wrong as not seen the spec.
Regardless of the spec thought I would not be comfortable to take my ‘main’ machine out and about in my pocket, yes a file-server or cloud storage would negate the loss of files etc but its not quite seamless just yet, although sure it wont be long.
I did see it.
In that way its similar to that dell venue pro 11 I picked up recently as testing machine for tablet terminals - although it is allot more budget looking than that machine. It has an option hard keyboard with additional barrty etc which turns to a ‘netbook/ultrabook’ with i5 processor but defiantly not a sleek as that.
Indeed, I would like to think that apple will come back with something awesome but last few years releases just seem to be ‘drab’ in comparison to (at the time) jaw dropping ideas they were coming out with.
BTW just like Samsung and their plethora of little fun features these phones seem to have one as well.
It will unlock just by picking up the phone and looking at it due to an iris scanner built in.
Oh and I thought this was interesting. The 2-in-1 weighs in at only 1.6lbs at 7.7mm thick
The screen/tablet half?
Just been looking them up and look very nice. might have to go on the shopping list ![]()
The entire thing lol. Thats insane they have not released the weight of it detatched.
What yopu mean by 2 in 1 then? not the surface book?
The 2 in 1 is the surface book. here is video for Surface Pro 4.
Website says;
Starting at 3.34 pounds (1,516 grams)
for surface book
So the source I looked at was only for the tablet then. At the time it was not on their website. Thats still impressive for its size.
The surface book is the type of device i’ve been waiting on, the specs of the pro 4 look impressive though.
For sure. book is what I would go for personally.
Yeah the book is amazing product. The pen has 1 year battery life… kinda makes Apples recharable pencil seem like a joke. Its got higher pressure sensitivity, 1 full year battery life not sure what apple was thinking honestly.
Didnt even look at the new ipad,
Was hoping they would have done something like the surface book but was left disappointing.
Either way untill they sort ipad with non ios os i wouldn;t consider ipad remotly close for a ‘work’ device.
Ipad pro was just a bigger ipad with an optional keyboard and stylus. It was their answer to Surface tablet keyboard and pen basically. They really did not innovate much. All of Microsofts products run full Windows 10 and all of the Windows applications.
Absent from all of this is Android powered innovation. I think manufacturers have a ways to go with Android in that regard honestly. The only thing Android tablets have going is price.
Thats the killer… IOS is awesome for iphone and was good on tablet vs android at first and still good for ipad mini with smaller size but a larger ipad with IOS even with ‘split view’ is counter productive.
10"+ is enough for full os.
That venue pro with win 10 has nice touch of switching between tablet mode when keyboard is taken off. If ipad pro had full os and switched between ios and mac osx when kayboard attached would be cool.
Thats very true although personally have never been interested in android. Although used very little.
However the fact it is used allot on ‘budget’ devices is possibly a negative as peoples impressions are often based on use on a low powered basic device which provides poor performance
I really want one of those Surface Books. I havnt wanted technology like this since Apple came out with Iphone. That thing is just amazing. I am hooked lol.
