Hey,
Can I have my SambaPOS Database online and save to it? MySQL?
If yes, how?
If no, add this to the suggestions

Have seen this question asked, pretty sure the answer was samba is not compatible with mySQL.
Cloud based setup is something that is under review for a future date as an option module I believe.
V5 is the main priority for emre at the moment.
My MSSQL Database is online you can do it very easily just need to open the port
I know how to make a MySQL database, I meant how to add it in SambaPOS settings
He is using Microsoft SQL, not MySQL.
SambaPOS only supports MSSQL, not MySQL.
@allmixedup when you say online - you do mean offsite with terminals connecting through internet connection don’t you?
If so would be interested to hear about your experience with that??? ie any lag or speed issues? What type of internet connection do you have?
I have tested this and its spotty at best. Connection issues were pretty bad and the server was on a 100mbit down 20mbit up connection. It worked but I had many times where the lag was over 1 min to respond… other times it was very fast. Several lost connections etc. THe thing I dont like about it is if the internet goes down you will lose data and all functions.
I agree with preferring local server, especially in rural UK where ADSL is still at 1Mb out of town
Was curious but you have confirmed what I expected the experience would be like, and if its like that on a decent 100Mb connection I dont even want to think about what it would be like here LOL
Only way i could see a cloud database working is if you had a dedicated connection to a remote site or datacenter to access the SQL database. Problem with internet is there could be a hundred different hops between you and the remote location before you actually get to your database… Even if you have a fast connection and one of your hops is slower then your isp connection or the hosts isp connection your limited to the speed of that single hop. Dedicated connections are designed to give you a dedicated pipe between you and where you want your traffic going without the middle man and they usually are over fiber and give your symetrical speed 20 up and 20 down for instance. They also are very expensive!
The way Cloud based POS systems work is much different than SambaPOS. The data passed to the database is minimal and its designed to hold a lot of the simple stuff locally. What I am saying is performance is not dependant on the cloud database.
Cloud features will be coming in future but like I said SambaPOS in its current form would not be a good cloud option atm. In fact its not designed to work this way at all and its recommended not to try and make it work this way you will have nothing but problems.
Hi Kendash,
Hope you’re well.
I was thinking of doing cloud just so I could see stuff like accounts data when I’m out and about and not have to use teamviewer, and maybe just changing a menu price or 2, would this be fine with current sambapos?
Thanks
V4 doesn’t have cloud functions, this is possibly going to be part of V5 but no until after public release, cloud is still a way off yet
