Hello, everyone. I received this strange request, but after hearing the client’s scenario, I realized it made sense.
Scenario:
Busy food court from morning to evening. The cashier staff leaves the cash drawer open rather than shutting it after each transaction. Finally, the manager discovered that some of the transactions were not keyed in by the cashier and pocketed the money.
Client Request:
Trigger an alert if the cash drawer is left open for longer than 10 seconds by beep sound.
Is there a way to capture how long the drawer was open for the transaction in a report format?
I know we can collect no-sale cash drawer logs, but this appears to be a nice approach to upsell solutions to many restaurants.
First how would Sambapos know it’s not closed? We do not have a lock pos feature but I think this is being over thought. Not everything should be a pos feature. This is available in some cash drawer models. It’s a hardware feature and requires hardware sensors.
I worked at McDonalds, and the system does not allow you to start a sale if the cash drawer is open. However, the cashier can take the order verbally and keep the money. This should be combined with surveillance cameras.
Yes McDonnalds has specialty hardware by par and ncr that is developed with the software for specific needs.
For us it’s hard to do that. But there are cash drawers with this and some may even have an api you could use with Sambapos but I would imagine they won’t be cheap.
About 2 years ago, a customer of mine used a Cash Keeper brand device. This small ATM cuts off the cashier’s relationship with money. Cash payments are added to the cash deposit section by the customer. The device completes the payment and gives the change. Maybe it can automatically close the ticket in SambaPOS through a service or API.
