Caller ID Iisue- UK

Hi, has anyone in the UK experienced an issue with Caller ID after their phone line was switched from analogue to digital?

Our line was recently migrated to a digital service, and since then Caller ID has stopped working with SambaPOS/Comet CID. The Caller ID itself is working correctly on the phones and incoming numbers are displayed, but SambaPOS is showing a “Comet CID Error – Invalid CID data” message.

Everything was working fine before the line was changed to digital.

Has anyone experienced this after a digital line migration, and if so, how did you resolve it? Any settings need to be changed in Sambapos.

Been off from the forum for some time.. good to be back.

Try a VoIP adaptor such as Grandstream.

Nice to see you back. Forums a bit dead these days so don’t expect much in terms of replies!

current setup is withCISCO ATA VOIP adapter which was provided by telecom service provider.

I would say probably the ATA is sending CID data that the USB Comet CID doesn’t understand. Not sure if the data shown as part of the error message 82-03-0b-01-00-6f is the actual data being sent? If it is, that looks like a MAC address, and the fact that is being received would imply the ATA has not been configured correctly.

Did you get the ATA from your phone company or you bought it yourself? If the phone company provided it, it should be pre-configured. But if you bought it yourself, you will need to configure it for your VoIP phone system - you’ll need to contact your phone company for details of how to do that as every company is different. The ATA is not a “plug n play” device - it needs to be configured to be able to connect to your phone line.

Another point besides this - I have heard that some CTI Comet devices are not compatible with ATA devices, and I’ve seen the same with older modems being used for CID which will not work with ATAs. However if the CTI Comet is still being sold today, I would say it would have to be compatible. It may be that it’s just the older CTI Meteor (Serial CID device) that is not compatible but I’m not sure - I don’t sell CTI devices as they’re overly expensive for what they do, so I only have experience with them if a customer has one already.

Definitely the method of setup with the ATA → CID device is correct and should work if setup properly and the CID is compatible.

Alternatively my company sells a VoIP / SIP phone compatible CID device for £65+VAT plus shipping which works with all phone companies in the UK and is compatible with SambaPOS. It is just a single device that connects between your router and VoIP phone (or base station if you are using cordless phones), then connects by USB to your computer. You do not need an ATA with our device - making it much more cost effective than using an ATA and analogue CID device. At the moment we are providing our VoIP CID device including free remote setup on SambaPOS, as the current setup method has a few steps - but if it’s something more people are interested in we could put together a setup guide or more automated setup process. If you’re interested in buying one of these from us, send me a PM.
