You installed SQL express 2014? You sure you got your instance name right? You sure SQL express is running?
We need more information to help you specifically. However you should know that error is usually because you didn’t setup SQL Express correctly. Or you simply setup the wrong string.
Without knowing what you did and how you setup SQL express all we can do is play a guessing game.

Delete the data string and SambaPOS will create a new database and you would be able to start again.
If he is using SQL express he would need a working string. If he installed localdb then yes deleting would work.
