A question ive asked before, but the prices have dropped a bit so I might give it a go.
However on the login screen for the POS is there a way to bypass pressing the POS button then entering the code? so literally, the dallas key is read and it logs straight on to the POS?
im guessing there would have to be somesort of background input?
Then aside from that, do you think it would be possible to jump from transaction to transaction with multiple users using the same POS at the same time?
Im all for doing this myself, I just need to know firstly if its possible.
Dallas keys, RFIDs, Mag Cards … they are virtually all the same.
Yes, you can use them to perform login. They are virtual keyboard input/emulators, so they just need to send the PIN and an “Enter” keytroke to login to the system. Many people use this method of User Login.
And yes, upon User Login Event (Rule), you can automate Navigation to the POS/Ticket screen, using the Navigate Module Action. Of course, accessing the POS/Ticket Screen still only works if a Workperiod is in session (started/open).
Im using the Time Punch system you created, so my users are entities.
Just wondering from the logged in state of the user if using the dallas key would be possible to automatically log into the POS without pressing POS first?
I use a basic Timeclock (Employee Entities) for tracking time, but it is not tied to Users in any way, and does not place restrictions on Users or Entities.
You might be thinking of the Timeclock by @Jesse which also uses Employee Entities, but I believe he also implements PINs and access permissions via those Entities to control what they can do.
However, the short answer to your question is probably yes, since it is all just a matter of Automation flow, which can be changed to suit your needs.
I tried to find an affordable dallas key reader and failed and am usually pretty good at hunting out good deals.
Ended up opting for RFID as readers start from ÂŁ5 each and a bag of 100 fobs is about ÂŁ20, way way cheaper than any dallas key option I could find.
I have used these on all 50+ terminals I have installed over last 18 months.
Also will be using them for the locals discount system on latest install
The only dalas readers I could find which weren’t very expensive were raw unterminated non USB reader/fittings.
I used to be a big fan of dalas keys especially with the magnetic ones on a system I used ages ago where removing the key logged you out however it proved too expensive to even consider trying.
I haven’t looked back from opting for rfid readers and also am installing door access controler on office and store etc which I have opted for same frequency rfid readers for the doors so their till key/fob will also be their jey for office/store rooms etc.
You been busy! Just a question, what hardware are you using to connect the door readers back to the Application? In a bigger complex you might have say 10 access points over say 100 metres. Do you have some of USB boaster HUB or similar?
Max of 4 doors per controller but software connects to all individually and shows all doors on each in one interface, you set users and permissions and broadcast an update to them all.
Not tried magnetic lock yet which I expect will draw more current but a simple releasing strike plate is only a small electromagnet to release the catch so will have the board centrally and rum a length of cat5 to each door.
There are 9 connections for each door on the board but 3 are grounds which can be merged into a single common wire meaning 7 wires needed.
If using magnet lock I would probably run a separate 2 core 12v feed to allow for a migher current although the specs on the magnets only lists very low current… will be testing as obviously easier and cleaner is can go down a single cat5.
