Gift Certificate Sales & Redemption

#82

i realised that when i wrote it so i was editing it, ill do what you just said but ill have to log into the forum from the till and i can’t c/p from the laptop

I have just gone in to select the gift certificate and the balance has reduced so it seems there is something automatically charging the gift certificate before it goes back to the main POS screen. Ill c/p the error report below and add a couple of screen shots here:

This screen shot shows that the product for £2.75 has been taken from this gift certificate correctly.

If I select this certificate, ill go into the main POS screen:

Whilst showing these screen shots i have noticed it showing the previous order…

If I chose something else to add it brings up the options screen:

If I go to “Close” it does this:

as stated above I will paste the report below.

#83

Please bear with me this is taking longer than expected

#84

I don’t know what the Order Tag screen (Option Box) would have to do with the GC, so there must be another issue there. The Tutorial doesn’t use any Order Tags. It optionally uses Ticket Tags, but that is a different thing. It does use Order States however.

In any case, you shouldn’t be able to use the GC as Tender for more than it’s value.

Check your GC Accounts Type:

#86

I just checked that screen and it is “Credit”.

I was under the impression you could use gift certificate as part payment with the added instructions of post 2? Which I have done.

Thanks for your time here, it is very much appreciated.

Matt

#87

The “meat” of the error is here:

Inner Exception 2
Type: System.NullReferenceException
Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source: Samba.Services
Stack Trace: at Samba.Services.Implementations.AccountModule.AccountService.CreateTransactionDocument(Account selectedAccount, AccountTransactionDocumentType documentType, String description, Decimal amount, IEnumerable`1 accounts)

So there is something wrong with an Account, Account Type, Transaction Type or Transaction Document. Double check those as they pertain to the GC.

Yes, you can. Are you using the Tender Gift Cert button on the Payment Screen when the crash occurs?

#88

Not using that button… I can’t even get to that point.

Ill check the transaction type now

I have checked all of the Accounts, Account Types, Transactions, transaction Types and document types and all is as good as it should be.

Is there any way I can send you my database so you can see for yourself the misbehaviour?

Thanks

Matt

#89

Ok, check your Actions:

GC Purchase
GC Redeem
GC Update Transaction Type

#90

Yes, you need to backup the DB and ZIP it up, then attach the ZIP to a Private Message to me.

#91

I have the backup module, so ill do a quick backup now and send it across. Ive double checked the actions above, and they all seemed to be correct also.

DB Has been sent.

Matt

#92

This will solve the crash, but I still haven’t figured out why the Ticket is being “auto-paid”.

You are missing the “s” on one of these…

#93

oh wow, so simple.

Thanks for that so far, I cannot stress enough how annoying this has been. To have it all working flawlessly will be amazing.

Matt

#94

Strange that pressing settle would auto pay it. That sounds like unintended behavior even if you have a configuration mistake it seems strange it would auto pay without a Pay Ticket action somewhere.

#95

Looking fine and dandy so far. I’ve just ordered a barcode reader to make things a little simpler. Just this last bit to sort out. If all fails here I might start from scratch…

#96

Very strange. This Rule is firing when I click Settle. I know this because I put a Show Message Action in it, and it pops up when I click Settle Button. Can’t understand why.

#97

I deleted the Rule shown above and re-created it from scratch. Problem gone.

This is as good a time as any to reiterate this:

If you create a Rule and add Actions to it, then go and change the Action Name or Parameters, you will need to go back in to the Rule, delete the Action, save the Rule, re-open the Rule and add the Action back in.

This is why the following fix worked…

Regarding the GC Entity Search screen… I removed the AC GC Update State GCStatus Action from the Rule RU GC Purchased & Printed, saved it, then added the Action back in to the Rule. Now the State Filter of Purchased works properly on the GC Entity Search Screen for any GCs created going forward, so you won’t need to look at a pile of Redeemed GCs.

P.S. consider upgrading to SQL Express or LocalDB. I noticed that the CE database is really slow to respond, especially when looking at Account Screens.

#98

Absolutely fantastic I really appreciate your time and effort helping me with this. Can’t wait to get this going!

Matt

#99

This works great thanks for the tutorial. I do have 2 small issues. I want to print any remaining gift balance when the cert is redeemed. I added in the Ticket tags as described in tutorial and also edited the Ticket Template but it does not print out the balance.

My Other question is what is the Tender Gift Cert used for. When I click it nothing happens. Im using the Gift Certificate on the right hand side to tender. I just cant figure out what that button is used for?

#100

If you properly implemented the portion of the Tutorial to set the GCN and GCB Ticket Tags, this should work to print Balance of the GC on the Ticket. If the balance is 0, then nothing will print… this is because of the [square brackets] that surround everything. To see what is contained therein, remove them. But I would guess there is something wrong with your setup.

Change this:

[<F>=
<J00>{TICKET TAG:GCN}|Balance: [=F(TN('{TICKET TAG:GCB}'))]]

To this:

<F>=
<J00>{TICKET TAG:GCN}|Balance: [=F(TN('{TICKET TAG:GCB}'))]

This is supposed to automatically use the GC as Tender without overdrawing it. It saves you needing to use a payment value first. It decides if the GC has enough funds to pay the Ticket. It will pay the whole Ticket or a portion of the Ticket, based on Ticket Total and GC Balance. Again, if it does not work for you, something is wrong is your setup.
