What version are you using as you have posted in both catagories?
We are currently testing some new Inventory features for next release (5.1.55) that should solve most needs.
Inventory will have “Products” which can have their own Recipe - a “sub-recipe” for the item which becomes part of the Master Product Recipe.
Inventory is always a complex and tedious task to set up properly. And new features such as Recipe Order Tags, Inventory Products and Sub-Recipes add to that complexity… and it adds to the complexity for running tests to ensure it works properly.
When complete and ready for release, I will do my best to explain via a lengthy Tutorial how it all ties together and inter-operates.
