Sql server 2017 express on windows 7 (embedded standard)

Hey,

I have just tried to install the above on a till and am getting a Windows error message saying that the program might not have installed properly.
Other than that nothing else is coming up.

As Windows 7 is no longer officially supported by Microsoft I am not going to spend long looking at this other than to apply Windows updates pending and reboot.

Is there any other version I can try or is there another way to do it?

It is a single till operation so will not have other tills running off the main till…

If it is single till then just use localdb 2014 from sambapos installer.

Thanks @Jesse I am trying that now.
Hopefully the DB I have been working on using 2017 will go in OK. But I assume it will.

You wont be able to go backwards unfortunately. You could script it though.

Ah right. So I cannot take a backup from SambaPos on my laptop (running SQL 2017 Express) and then restore same backup to till running 2014 local using SambaPos interface?

How would I go about scripting it if you don’t mind me asking?

Think I found something I will take a look:

The guy has decided to upgrade his till’s OS to Win 10.
The till is a Sam4S Titan S160

Is there a specific version of Windows 10 Needed for SambaPos and SQL 2017?

In the past I have used Windows 10 IoT for other systems without issue but I’ve never done it with Samba or Samsung before and is getting his friend in the computer shop to upgrade it.

Thanks.

Windows 10 will work just fine The only concern would be can the hardware support it? Does it have decent cpu and ram? Is it a ssd?

Thanks. It has an SSD but am not too sure about the other bits. It certainly has an Intel Celeron processor which I don’t think is the best. It may only have 2GB ram but am not 100% sure as I was a bit rushed to get somewhere else.

I know someone else that is looking to offload some Windows 10 terminals that are almost brand new and higher spec (4GB ram I think). So I think I will try and get a deal done there between the two. It would also allow me to get the system working off-site rather than trying to install onto his existing hardware in situ.

I installed Samba with SQL 2014 onto it and it seemed slightly laggy at the start but then seemed to speed up a bit. Not sure if that means anything at all. I never went past loading the default database for aforementioned reasons.

I wouldn’t even try in 2g 4g is minimum. I recommend 8gig

That’s normal. The system is slower but Sambapos loads menu and other screens in memory to speed it up. It’s not a sql thing. It’s the system specs and just needing to let it load to memory.
